Dominion Stores (Ontario)
(Redirected from Dominion Super Market)
Dominion refers to two separate upscale supermarket chains in Canada. Based in Toronto, Ontario, it was once a single company owned by media mogul Conrad Black's Argus Corporation. The chain's assets were sold to various parties, including A&P, which acquired the Ontario stores. A&P used to operate under the A&P banner in Toronto, but all have been closed or rebranded since the acquisition of Dominion. Outside of Toronto and some suburbs, Dominion Stores were changed to the A&P banner.
In Ontario, A & P Canada operates Dominion Stores Ltd in the Greater Toronto Area as well as Ultra Food & Drug and the lower-end Food Basics. Dominion's distribution centres are located in Etobicoke and Mississauga.
In Newfoundland and Labrador Loblaws operates a chain under the Dominion banner, which it acquired in various stages over the 1990s. There is no legal relationship to A&P, other than a licence to the Dominion name.
Dominion's original slogan was "mainly because of the meat".
